With a Range of New and Enhanced Features, Galileo Further Increases Speed and Precision of Feasibility Studies for Healthcare and Research Networks

Pharmaceutical companies and sponsors of clinical research look to hospital networks and research sites, large and small, in search of eligible candidates to participate in their clinical trials. For healthcare and research organizations, it represents an opportunity to contribute to bringing new lifesaving medications to market. Participation can also be a significant driver of revenue. For both reasons, it is sensible for these organizations to review as many protocols as possible.

But doing so can consume significant time and resources, particularly as the complexity of trial protocols has increased. Sifting through EMR databases and patient charts to find candidates who meet the numerous inclusion and exclusion criteria of each study can stretch already resource-constrained organizations.

BEKhealth’s Galileo is the solution to the challenges of conducting manual and laborious patient count feasibility surveys.

Launched last year, Galileo is a trial feasibility solution that gives any healthcare professional, with minimal training, the ability to run network searches and determine whether to take on an incoming clinical trial opportunity. By ingesting unstructured EMR data and translating it into language and clinical terminology used in protocols, the solution looks across an entire patient network and across all sites, ultimately reducing the time it takes to conduct a feasibility study from weeks to real-time.

BEKHealth has recently unveiled several significant enhancements to Galileo, starting with a global heatmap that visually depicts the locations of available patients across the entire provider network. In addition to conducting searches at the main hospital or research level, Galileo can now delve deeper into the network to find patients at satellite offices, departments, and even offices of affiliated physicians. This new capability gives larger healthcare systems a more granular view of their patient populations.

The BEKhealth clinical library and research ontology has been expanded to include more diagnoses, medications, procedures, lab tests, and clinical observations from patient charts, deepening Galileo’s ability to capture unstructured data within medical records. Finally, BEKhealth has improved the overall performance of the solution to accelerate turnaround time of studies and enable large hospital networks to run searches with larger data sets.

Ultimately, the enhanced Galileo makes it even easier for hospital networks and research sites to participate in medical research and reap the financial benefits without investing inordinate amounts of time and resources.
